County Champions
On May 13th the girls' football team set out for An Cheathrú Rua, nervous but excited.
We all did our stretches and warm-ups when we got there and faced Clifden for our first match. Our day started well and we scored a lot finishing with a tally of 7-6. After a small break it was time for our second match against Oughterard. This was a tougher match but we came through to win by eight points.
The semi-final was next and our adrenaline was pumping as faced Baile na hAbhainn. This was our hardest match. They were a brilliant team. We were losing in the first half but we were more determind than ever and managed to turn the game around in the second half. We won 5-1 to 1-4.
We had topped our group but we had no time to get excited because straight away it was time for the final against the home team, Carraroe. We started well and scored two goals in the first half. The match was far from over however. Carraroe were determined but we didn't let down our guard with excellent efforts from our backs, midfield and goalie. When the referee blew fulltime whistle the score was 4-4 to 2-1. We had won a 1st county title for Buaile Beag.
We were so excited, we beeped all the way back to school. When we got to the school there was a bonfire for us and we kept beeping. Everyone was so proud of us. We had a party and were presented with medals. It was a briliant day!
