County Champions

On the 21st of April our school competed in the Xtra Vision Galway soccer tournament. It was held in Drum. In our first match we played against Cloughbrack and we won 5-0. We faced Clonbur in the second match and won 3-0, if we won our next game we would be into the quarter finals. We defeated Drim in the third game and made it through to the quarter finals. This was by far the toughest game yet. At half-time we were 2-0 down, Mr. O Keeffe encouraged us to do better and we responded with a 2nd half goal surge. We finished the game with a wonderful strike to knock out a very good and brave team from Windfield NS on a scoreline of 3-2.

We were really tired but we had a short break and got our breath back before the semi-final. We were delighted to finish this game with a 3-0 victory but were beginning to feel sore and tired. As we made our way down the to the pitch where the final was to be played, we watched the two remaining teams battle it out on penalties. Menlo finally won the penalty shoot out and faced us in the final.

It was a really great game. We went down 1-0 but managed to level up the game before half-time. After half-time Menlo scored again, we were dowm 2-1 and it wasn't looking good. We never gave up however, and the equaliser came to send the match into a golden goal situation. Our supporters could hardly bear to watch. It was 2-2 and we were being really careful. Half-time came again and afterwards we went on and gave it all we had left. Then one of our forwards ran down the wing and scored. We had won! County Champions again!
