EA Sports FAI Schools 5-a-side Connacht Finals

On Wednesday the 13th of May 2009 eight boys from 5th and 6th class and a load of supporters from Buaile Beag travelled to Shiven Rovers ground near Mountbellew. They were there to compete in the EA sports 5-a-side Connacht Finals after a fabulous win after an intense Galway final in Drum. The other teams were Derrywash from Mayo Drumcong from Leitrim Kilglass from Sligo. The first match was against Derrywash. Nervous and just out of the car from the long journey, Buaile Beag were beaten 3-0 scoring that didn't reflect the tightness of the match. Our second match was against Drumcong. We lobbed a long shot and narrowly missed the ball, bouncing off the corner between the crossbar and post. Eventually we hit the mark and scored a goal from the edge of the box to take the lead which we added to and we won the game 4-1. The next game was against the Sligo team, Kilglass NS. We took an early lead and built on it with some amazing goals the best of which was a long range smack which lobbed the keeper and landed brilliantly into the corner. Another great goal for us was a long range shot that lobbed the keeper again. Buaile Beag won the game 8-0, a brilliant performance from them. Once more in the last game Buaile Beag dominated and with a tight finish won the game 4-3. Unfortunately Derrywash won the rest of games so they won but Buaile Beag came second which was an excellent result for such a small school.
