2007 Ribena 5-a-side All-Ireland Champions!

2007 marked the year in which Buaile Beag heralded their first All-Ireland title! The team, along with a bus load of supporters from school, travelled cross country to Navan to claim victory. After a gruelling day they returned to bonfires set by neighbours and a welcoming party made up of parents and children - both past and present. It is certainly a day which will go down in the long history of Buaile Beag!

Craobh na hEireann

On Wednesday 30th of May 2007 Buaile Beag set off for Navan with 8 very gifted players. Their goal for the day was to win the All-Ireland 5-a-side. The team was wearing a green strip. Waterford were the first challenge. After winning the county and the Connaught finals the lads knew what it took to win. The team was playing a 1-2-1 formation. The boys from Buaile Beag were a small bit complacent and let the Munster boys draw level. We scored to put us in the lead once more and soon extended that lead. Waterford got a consolation goal in the closing minutes of the game. The game ended 3-2 for Buaile Beag.
In the next game Buaile Beag were up against a better side. Westmeath representing Leinster. A close match throughout with one of our key players getting an injury towards the end of the game but replaced by one of three excellent subs. The game was tied up with the last kick of the ball to leave the score 3-3.
In the last game all Buaile Beag required was a draw to become All-Ireland champions but the Buaile Beag eight were only interested in winning their final game. They went 4-0 up. A shot from the Cavan and Ulster star was blocked on the line by one of our defenders leaving the team with only 4 players. The Ulster man scored the penalty. Our goalie produced 2 or 3 great saves in goal and the subs came on and maintained Buaile Beag's lead. When the final whistle blew the supporters ran onto the pitch. There were bonfires and celebrations when the team arrived home with the cup. These eight players made history for the school in Buaile Beag.
